Welcome to ServiceTeaching.org

ServiceTeaching.org is a cooperative effort of faculty and staff of Edison Community College in Piqua, Ohio, and area independent senior living communities.

The pilot project is working with the Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney, Ohio, and we hope to have a sample selection of courses ready to begin in September 2009.

ServiceTeaching.org is based on a philosophy that those with special knowledge and a drive to share it will do so willingly, as volunteers, for the satisfaction teaching brings. It affords professional teachers an opportunity to "test drive" course content before incorporating it into college credit courses, or simply the opportunity to step outside their disciplines.

Members of ServiceTeaching.org will be active full-time, part-time and retired college faculty, or members of the community at large with an intimate knowledge of an appropriate field.

Disciplines will mirror traditional college disciplines: humanities, sciences, arts, technology, and so on. And ServiceTeaching.org will be the center of a community of teachers and learners, creating a marketplace of ideas. Groups of learners can request certain topics, or browse the online catalog of offerings from ServiceTeaching.org volunteers.

For those who would like to create courses for Senior College and other ServiceTeaching.org programs, curriculum templates and guidelines are available on the ServiceTeaching.org website.

If you have any questions, ideas or other feedback, please drop me an email!
